The end of our story this year. The last of the chicks have also passed away. A complete brood failure is a common phenomenon in nature. In this case, hypothermia might have been the key factor – two isolated little ones cannot generate and maintain as much heat as a full group of siblings warming each other. The nest was cleaned for sanitary reasons, and the sterile box is waiting for new tenants.

Nature once again shows its harsh reality. The camera recorded a difficult moment when the female carries a dead chick out of the box in her beak. It is a ruthless but necessary bird sanitary instinct – the mother removes the bacterial threat at all costs to maintain sterility in the nest and protect the remaining little ones still fighting for survival.

A sad but completely natural sight. One of the chicks, noticeably smaller than its siblings (the last to hatch), did not survive the competition for food. Weakened chicks have paler gapes, causing parents to instinctively bypass them, investing energy in stronger offspring. However, the mother's instinct is incredible – during the night she dug in the nest to bury the body in the moss (in the morning only the head was visible). She did this to maintain sterile conditions and protect the remaining, very strong four.

The brutal side of nature. Because the tit built a very thick layer of moss, the nest was too close to the entrance hole. A woodpecker took advantage of this, reaching its head into the box and pulling out three chicks with its beak. To protect the remaining wonderful five from the predator's return, an additional "chimney" (wooden anti-predator guard) was quickly mounted on the outside, making it impossible to reach the bottom of the nest.

When the female suddenly stands completely still in the corner of the box like a statue, she is taking a rejuvenating "micro-sleep". It is also a way to prevent the chicks from overheating – the eight growing little ones generate so much heat that constantly sitting on them is no longer necessary and could even be dangerous.

Night doesn't mean rest. The female spent a lot of time with her head buried deep in the nest lining. She was likely hunting for parasites (mites and fleas) in the moss, rearranging the chicks, or eating their nighttime droppings to maintain sterile conditions in the box.

Amazing behavior! Moments after being fed, one of the chicks produced a so-called fecal sac. The female instantly grabbed this white package in her beak and carried it outside to keep the nest flawlessly clean.

Nature can be harsh. In the morning, during the female's departure, one chick unfortunately got hooked on her feathers and fell out of the nest cup. Disoriented, it went the wrong way, got stuck by the wall, and sadly passed away from the cold. At the same time, the hatching process from the remaining eggs successfully finished – we have 8 strong chicks ready to be fed!

The family is growing rapidly! We already have four hatched babies. The female returns to the nest and feeds them, and the hungry chicks adorably open their small, yellow beaks!

An incredible moment! At 7:11 AM the shell started cracking. The caring female helped the little one and ate the shells. At 8:08, when she flew out, we officially saw the first hatched chick!

With such a huge clutch (10 eggs), accidents happen. During the morning's energetic turning and nesting, one egg accidentally slipped out of the nest cup. Unfortunately, tits cannot roll it back, so the egg will remain in the corner of the box.

The female bravely defended the brood! She spread her wings and aggressively pecked towards the entrance, scaring off an uninvited guest. The Great Tit showed her true character!

The male flew to the box with an insect, but since the female was absent, he didn't eat it himself. Instead, he waited patiently in the corner of the nest to feed her. An amazing bond!

Official start of incubating the full clutch (10 eggs)! The female spends most of the day in the box, and the male makes sure she isn't hungry.

A very important moment! Although the tit cleverly camouflages it with litter, a fragment of the first tiny egg was spotted before she flew out.

The tit had roosted here while scouting, but this night is special. After laying the soft lining, she stays in the finished nest.

Real action scenes! An intruder burst into the box while the rightful owner was there. A confrontation ensued, resulting in the owner being chased away and the aggressor stealing valuable lining.

The base of moss and twigs is ready. First thing in the morning, the tit started bringing soft material to line the cup where the eggs will rest.
